HOW TO CLEAN A ROUGH DIAMOND?
Diamond is the hardest material that can be found on earth. Indeed, with an index of 10 on the Mohs scale, the diamond cannot be scratched (except by another diamond). However, diamonds require special and meticulous maintenance so that they retain their brilliance as on the first day. Indeed, if the diamond is the hardest material, it is also extremely fragile. Common cosmetics and maintenance products, such as lotion, makeup, or cleaning products, contain chemicals that can damage your jewelry in the long run. Thus, it is advisable to maintain and clean your jewels as well as your stones like the diam regularly so that they do not lose their shine.
For this, Maison Bäumer gives you maintenance advice. For example, when you do housework, DIY or another activity that could damage your diamond, consider removing your ring. Also, avoid diving with your ring set with one or more diamonds because contact with chlorine could bleach your diamond. Fats are also to be avoided because they could tarnish your stone.
In other words, avoid shocks to your diamond at all costs, which could damage it, weaken it or deteriorate it. So, when you store your jewelry with diamonds, avoid storing it with other diamond jewelry so that the latter do not clash. Also, protect your metal from any knocks or scratches.
Ensuring the cleaning of the diamond with chemicals
There are products specially designed to clean your ring, wedding band, bracelet, necklace or any other jewel set with diamonds. Indeed, these products are an effective and fast solution to clean your diamond with confidence. If your diamond is alone and not mounted on a jewel, then you have no contraindications for using this type of product. On the other hand, if your diamond is mounted on a jewel, make sure that your chemical product is compatible with the metal of your setting in order to avoid the deterioration of the latter. Indeed, some chemicals can damage some of your jewelry such as chlorine, bleach, acetone can scratch and damage your jewelry. Do not hesitate to inquire with qualified persons.
Clean the diamond with baking soda
You can also clean your diamond with products from your home, whether you use it in daily life or not. Indeed, baking soda and lemon are often recommended to remove traces of your diamond and make it shine like the first day. For this, the same procedure as for cleaning with chemicals: be careful not to damage your frame! Indeed, baking soda and lemon are abrasive. In this sense, they will not pose a particular problem for your diamond but rather for your metal.
Use coca cola or toothpaste
Other methods advise cleaning your diamond with coke or toothpaste. We advise you to be careful with the sugar that may be present in this drink. Also, these two elements are extremely abrasive and could damage your frame.
In reality, the diamond resists any material unlike other stones for which this method of maintenance would be avoided.
Clean your diamond with soapy water
This maintenance method is certainly the safest and most effective that you can do at home. Indeed, your jewelry, whether bracelets, necklaces, rings or earrings, must be cleaned several times a year in order to preserve the quality and brilliance of your stones, including your diamonds. But as explained above, you must pay particular attention to your jewelry so as not to damage it.
In this sense, soapy water is the perfect solution. We advise you to opt for liquid knowledge or dishwashing liquid which will degrease your stone without damaging your metal. It is also preferable to use soaps made from natural products.
To do this, pour warm water into a bowl and add soap. Let your ring soak in this bowl for about twenty minutes in order to remove the impurities present on your jewel and your diamond. Once the time has elapsed, if you still see impurities or dirt, do not hesitate to use a brush to gently rub your stone then rinse it with cold water to finally dry it in a towel.
