CHARLENE DE MONACO’S “ECUME DE DIAMANTS” TIARA
Lorenz Bäumer, creator of the Tiara of Princess Charlene of Monaco
In 2011, Lorenz Bäumer had the honor of being chosen as the personal jeweler of Princess Charlene of Monaco for the time of her marriage. Among several proposals, the tiara baptized “Scum of diamonds” turned out to be the only one and knew how to conquer the heart of the Princess. The tiara, set with multiple diamonds of different sizes, is inspired by their shared passion for the sea, the Princess, swimming champion, and Lorenz Bäumer, a surfing enthusiast. Karl Lagerfeld immortalized this magical moment by photographing Lorenz Bäumer and Charlene of Monaco wearing his diamond foam.
The tiara is a unique jewel, fashioned in the image of the princess. The tiara is composed of round diamonds, baguettes and polished white gold for a mirror effect and once assembled the tiara reflects the light and recalls the movement of the waves.
The sumptuous “Scum of Diamonds” tiara is adorned with a pavé of sparkling round and baguette diamonds as well as eleven pear-shaped diamonds, the largest of which alone weighs 8 carats.
The first particularity of this tiara is that it can be worn as a jewel in the hair but also as a brooch. The second particularity of the Diamond Foam tiara is its asymmetry, a daring choice since the Diamond Foam is more difficult to fix than a classic tiara, but Lorenz, an engineer by training, knew how to take up the challenge.
