Knowing your ring size
HOW TO KNOW YOUR RING SIZE?
Knowing your ring size is often essential. Indeed, whether for a gift or for yourself, a ring that is too tight risks injuring you, and a ring that is too large risks being lost. To find out your finger size for this piece of jewelry, you can either measure it yourself or go to a jewelry store to have it measured by a professional. Maison Bäumer reveals a virtual multi-step guide that will allow you to choose the perfect piece of jewelry adapted to your finger size.
What needs to be measured
Wedding bands, engagement rings, bracelets, and other jewelry often require precise sizing, which demands careful attention. Many people tend to try and measure their finger sizes at home to avoid visiting a professional. For both women and men, Maison Bäumer offers this virtual guide to provide you with effective methods for the occasion.
For reliable results, it is best to measure your finger size at the end of the day. Be sure to follow our advice as closely as possible. Avoid taking your measurements when your finger is hot or cold. There are two methods to find your finger size:
- Measure your finger circumference
- Use one of your rings that perfectly fits your finger size.
Ring size
There are different methods for measuring your finger circumference to choose your ring size.
- First, if you have a tape measure, use it to measure your finger circumference, then match your measurement in millimeters to the closest one in the table below. This will help you find the correct size for your ring. This step is one of the simplest and tends to quickly find the right match for your finger size.
If this method doesn't suit you, you can also opt for the following:
- If you don't have a tape measure, take a piece of string, thread, or a strip of paper and wrap it around the base of your finger. Use a pen to mark the point where the string/paper strip completes the circle. Then, on a flat surface, use a ruler to measure the length in millimeters between the beginning of the string/paper strip and your mark.
To help you, we advise you to use the table at the bottom of the page. Once you have your measurements, refer to this table. If you want to confirm the size measured, you can proceed with a final step by asking for help from someone around you.
The ring's diameter
To measure the diameter of a ring, homemade techniques are not necessarily the most accurate. A ring's size corresponds to its circumference in millimeters. Often, if you have a ring, it is advisable to place it on a flat surface to measure its inside diameter with a ruler and then refer to the corresponding size according to the conversion table at the bottom of the page.
Of course, if you want more precision regarding the circumference, diameter, or simply to accurately measure your finger size, we recommend coming into the store to use professional tools and get more reliable advice and guidance.
Using a ring sizer to determine your ring size
You can also choose your ring size from an existing ring so that you don't have to go through the previous step. Indeed, if you own a ring that fits perfectly on the finger on which you will wear your Maison Bäumer creation, you can use the ring sizer below to find the correspondences.
Print the size guide chart. Before printing, make sure that no scaling is done during printing. Check that size 44 measures 14.01mm with a ruler and a pen.
Place your ring over the drawn circles, making sure that the inside of the ring is aligned with the circle that best matches. This way you will find the correct size for your ring.
If your ring is between two sizes, it is preferable to choose the larger one. Indeed, the finger tends to swell at the end of the day, so it is better to opt for a larger size, knowing that it is always possible to resize it after purchase if necessary.
Consult a jeweler
If you wish to obtain your ring size more precisely and certainly, you can visit a jeweler who will measure your finger size using a ring sizer or a ring mandrel.
A ring mandrel is a conical instrument with markings that allows for the measurement of a ring's size.
A ring sizer is also an instrument that helps determine your finger size. This set of rings of different sizes can be placed on the finger to find the ring circumference that corresponds to your finger size.
