Solitaire ring, the promise of a solemn commitment

Thanks to its strong symbolic value, the solitaire ring is often used during a marriage proposal or engagement. Appreciated for its universal style and its unparalleled elegance, it can also adorn your fingers on all occasions. A gift to offer during important events, this luxury jewel takes all its beauty from the cocktail of precious materials that went into its creation. Whether you are looking for an engagement or wedding ring or a necklace for your everyday outfits, Bäumer Vendôme offers you its regularly updated collection of high-end jewellery.

WHAT IS A SOLITAIRE RING?

Timeless, the solitaire ring is a luxurious jewel offered on exceptional occasions. If some models are perfect as birthday gifts or for other important events, the diamond soltaire ring is especially intended for engagement. Proof of love, this fine jewelry ornament is worn on the left ring finger until the wedding. Once that day arrives, the wedding band slips alongside the engagement ring on the same finger. However, this tradition is revisited according to cultures and times, and the use is more and more free. Synonymous with commitment for life, promise of a new story written together, the diamond solitaire symbolizes love and admiration until eternity.

Unlike its peers, the solitaire ring, whatever its size, has a specific setting. The ring designed with an alloy of precious metals is overhung by a cut stone fixed with the help of a basket of four or more claws. If usually, the solitaire ring is presented with a white diamond, other models with red (ruby), green (emerald), pink (pink sapphire) or blue (blue sapphire) precious stones are also possible and can bring more elegance to any outfit. The term solitaire is often associated with a ring adorned with a single gemstone. The pavé solitaire, the surrounded solitaire and the accompanied solitaire refer to a solitaire ring set with a central stone with other stones. The final designation varies according to the arrangement of the stones on the setting. The pavé solitaire is set with stones on the ring body, the surrounded solitaire has its central stone surrounded by a circle of other stones (same as the central stone or different) and the accompanied solitaire (or shouldered solitaire) generally has a stone on either side of the center stone.

WHICH SOLITAIRE RING TO CHOOSE?

A solitaire adorned with a central diamond is the ideal present for an engagement ring. Whatever your color of choice yellow gold, rose gold or white gold, this stone is distinguished by its majesty and remains rich in meaning. The diamond without distinction of color is not only known for its solidity, but also to symbolize eternity. In addition to this strong allegory, it also stands out for its all-purpose character, allowing it to bring a touch of elegance to all styles.

If the solitaire is to be offered for other events, other precious stones or semi-precious stones can be used as an ornament. Just like the diamond, the sapphire comes in several colors: pink, white or yellow, but blue is the most common. This stone symbolizes peace and harmony. To declare passion, nothing beats a solitaire ring set with red rubies. The emerald, green in color, is synonymous with hope. Find on Bäumer Vendôme a favorite selection of rings, necklaces, bracelets or earrings to remain sublime in any occasion.

WHICH ALLOY FOR THE BODY OF THE RING?

With its brilliance and unalterable character, gold remains unbeatable for the body of the solitaire in luxury jewellery. In order to give it its resistance and its color, it is not used alone, but in alloy with other metals. 18 carat gold is the most common, this alloy also called 750 thousandths gold results from a composition of 75% pure gold and 25% other metals. Depending on the desired final color, the alloy can be made with copper, silver, platinum or palladium. 9 carat gold or 375 thousandths gold refers to an alloy of 37.5% pure gold with silver and copper. This mixture makes it possible to obtain a ring body perfectly identical to 18 carat gold in terms of shine, but with a more attractive price.

A noble metal, rarer, more expensive and more precious than gold, platinum at 95% or 950 thousandths is an object of desire for the making of a high-end solitaire. With its brilliant white luster and finesse, it blends perfectly with all gemstones. Discreet, but still of high quality, 925 thousandths silver is the ideal ring body for everyday use. Its alloy with copper makes it possible to produce jewels of extreme finesse. That said, for a solitaire or a diamond (or other precious stone) engagement ring , silver is little used because it tarnishes more quickly. We prefer 18 carat gold or 9 carat gold.

HOW TO CARE FOR A SOLITAIRE RING?

Regardless of the alloys used and the setting stone, the solitaire ring can lose its luster over time. Several factors can be at the origin of this tarnished aspect of the solitaire. If perspiration is one of the main causes of this problem, contact with chlorine or fat can also produce the same effect. In this case, a maintenance of the ring is essential so that it regains all its brilliance. Cleaning can be done with soap and water or a degreasing product chosen according to the nature of the stone and the alloy of the body of the ring.

The ring is then soaked in the chosen solution for about thirty minutes and then gently brushed to remove any stains. Rinsing is done with lukewarm water followed by drying inside a cotton pad or using a clean cloth. A few good habits also help maintain the shine of your solitaire. It is therefore recommended to remove it during household chores, DIY or gardening. Contact with swimming pool water and sea water is also not recommended.
