How do I clean my ring?

There are many ways to clean your rings, depending on the material of these. In the majority, the cleaning treatments are to be carried out carefully to remove each plate of dirt and preserve the condition of the jewel and the stones. These can be done in a jewelry store (polishing, rhodium plating), but a few simple techniques will allow you to clean your jewelry directly at home. The same tricks can be applied on the same model to pendants, necklaces, brooches .

To clean a yellow gold ring so that it regains all its shine, it is possible to wash it with simple products:

- water with Marseille soap

- toothpaste, leaving to dry then rinsing with lukewarm water

- water and baking soda

- alcohol vinegar or a little dishwashing liquid in lukewarm water

As with silver, there are also special wipes that can be purchased from the jeweler.

For pink and white gold rings, the maintenance of these requires more care. We recommend leaving the jewel to soak in a bowl of warm soapy water for 1 to 2 minutes; then wipe it with a clean, soft cloth. This gentler and more attentive care will preserve the color of the jewel. For those in white gold, it is advisable to redo a new rhodium plating every 2 years to preserve the whiteness of the gold.

Pay attention to the ring set with stones. In fact, precious stones such as diamonds and fine stones (citrine, opal, sapphire, emerald, etc.) or even lacquer, mother-of-pearl and pearls can be affected by hot water and greasy products. For this, it is advisable to revive the color of the gold only by using lukewarm water and Marseille soap. As for titanium, it does not require any particular maintenance, lukewarm water and soap are also suitable.

What is the size of my finger?

To know the size of your finger, it is necessary to use a ring sizer. This can be bought or simply used by going to a jewelry store. To choose a ring or a ring, it is important to take into account that each finger has a different size, even from one hand to another, and that this measurement can vary according to temperature and age, especially in humans.

If your wedding band becomes too small and gets stuck on your finger, it is possible to enlarge (or reduce) the size of your ring by 2 or 3 sizes maximum. For a ring that is too big, it is possible to add restockings (plate, balls, etc.) to gain half a size, and prevent the jewelry from turning.

Gold, which carats to choose?

On the same model as silver, there are several different carats of gold. These refer to the amount of gold present in the alloy: 9 carat earrings will have a lower gold alloy than 18 or 24 carat earrings and the price will therefore be higher. Nevertheless the price of the realization remains the same. Finally, the higher the gold content in the alloy, the less the jewelry will tend to oxidize. It is therefore important to take it into account, especially for a wedding ring or a piece of jewelry because the carat attests to the purity of gold and its longevity.

Although the alloys are different for white and rose gold, the same karat system applies as the proportion of gold remains the same. Indeed, an 18 carat white gold ring will have 75% gold, and silver, giving it the gray color. Then, a rhodium plating is applied to obtain the white gold. For an 18k rose gold ring, the ring will be made of 75% gold and copper, giving it its pink color.

What color of gold to choose?
